Frequently Asked Questions
About How to Donate Your Car in Michigan
We're here to answer your questions
Here are the answers to some of the most common questions we hear from our much appreciated donors
How does the car donation process work?
We have made the car donation process simple and pleasant. To donate your car, please complete our easy-to-use online car donation form, or call our friendly donation specialists at 313.WADDLES (313.923.3537). Once we are in possession of your vehicle and title, we will either email or mail you an IRS tax deductible donation receipt, whichever you prefer.
How does my tax deduction work?
When you donate to Mother Waddles, we will issue you an IRS Form 1098-C which will allow you to deduct the private party blue book value if the vehicle is in running condition. If the vehicle is not in running condition, you can deduct up to $500 or what the vehicle sells for, whichever is greater.
When donating a car, does it have to be a running car?
No. We accept ALL car donations regardless of mechanical or body condition.
Do you accept vehicle donations nationwide?
Yes. We accept and process car donations in all 50 states.
Do you accept other donations besides vehicles?
Yes. In most cases, we also accept boats, motorcycles, ATVs, RVs, and property. If you have a question as to whether or not your item can be donated, please contact us at 313.WADDLES (313.923.3537).
Do I need to have the title to the vehicle in order to donate it?
We prefer a title but we can still process the donation without a title, however we do need any applicable lien release or original termination statement, if there was ever a lien holder listed on the title. We will need you to sign the title on the 'signature of seller line' located in the first reassignment area of the title. Please remember to sign your name as it appears on the front of the title. If more than one person is listed as an owner on the front of the title, both parties must sign on the 'signature of seller' line. If you do not have title, please contact us and we will let you know if we are able to accept your vehicle donation.
How long will it take to have my car donation picked up?
Our towing company should contact you within 24-48 hours of your completed donation. When you are contacted by the tow company, you can schedule a pick-up time for your vehicle that is convenient for you. If necessary, we can also expedite a towing request if you need your vehicle to be picked-up within 24 hours.
Is there a charge for towing?
No. We pick up the vehicle at no cost to you.
Do I have to be home when my donated car is picked up?
No. If you desire to have your vehicle picked-up when you are not home, simply leave the signed title and keys in the vehicle and advise the tow company of the location of these items. When your vehicle is picked-up, the towing company will leave you a towing receipt showing that your vehicle was picked up on behalf of Mother Waddles. Please remember to remove your personal belongings and take off the license plate on the day the vehicle is scheduled to be picked-up.
